Rules for Safe and Nature Friendly Mountain Biking

Consideration is the most important watchword for mountain bikers in our lovely forests. Consideration for nature, animals and other people. A few basic ground rules help to preserve the beauty of the Bavarian Forest and to complete a tour of discovery on two wheels in safety. This will not spoil the fun of mountain biking.

Mountain bikes are robust and capable of handling most terrains. But not every terrain is there to be ridden over without care. Therefore:

•    Respect the closure of paths and avoid wild off track riding. Both help to protect the natural environment.

•    Adapt your riding to the terrain and the track. Sharp braking with skidding damages the trails and speeds up erosion. Even when the excitement of speed is tempting: do not ride too fast and allow enough distance to react safely to the sudden appearance of walkers, cyclists or dogs. Alert other people to your presence early enough by ringing your bell.

•    Do not disturb small animals by leaving cycle trails or staying in the forest after dark. If you happen to pass through fields with animals, make sure you close the gates.

Very important: Plan your mountain bike tour carefully in advance. Choose trails which are suitable for your fitness and your bike. Before you leave, make sure that everything is working properly.

Make sure you take with you: Helmet, tools, refreshments and first aid set.
